Dear Friends of Golden Sunbeams
Today we report on our new kindergarten project, which focuses on a very courageous idea. We are talking about the kindergarten “Covenant Kids ECD Center” in the township of Rusthof, which was founded in 2019 and fully opened on June 1, 2020.
The courageous main actor is Chrizell Strangman, who gave up her secure, full-time job as principal of a facility in Sir Lowry’s Pass in order to fulfill a heart’s desire: She founded her own kindergarten, a beacon of hope and caring, as she puts it.
“Covenant Kids ECD Center” is a kindergarten that focuses on the individual development of children between 4 months and 6 years. In small groups and in a safe, harmonious and stimulating learning environment, children can discover and develop their individuality while they are being prepared for school.
The children receive a healthy breakfast and lunch and, for a surcharge, computer courses have recently been offered for the little ones.
We were very impressed by Chrizell’s thoughts, her goal-oriented approach and her tireless commitment and diligence. She talks about her mission, her vision and her goals without losing sight of profitability.
With her keen sense for contemporary marketing and clear, direct communication, she is very active on Facebook and posts the activities of the kindergarten almost every day. A flyer that clearly explains their kindergarten philosophy, the advantages and school fees for the different age groups is aimed at all those who do not have access to digital media. So it’s no wonder that her capacity was exhausted after a very short time and and that she had to turn away other parents who wanted to enroll their children in Chrizell’s kindergarten due to a lack of space.
In the meantime, the crowd of children has increased to 60 little girls and boys and an expansion of the house will be inevitable if one wants to receive registration and thus government funding. And of course Chrizell wants them! However, since the property is not very large and the outdoor area is to be used for the children to play, additional living space can only be created by using the existing floor plan and adding another floor.
How lucky that her husband is an architect and is able to plan the expansion of the house. George Strangman has supported and advised Golden Sunbeams e.V. for many years – so we are a good team!
In addition to his actual profession as an architect, our friend George supports his wife wherever he can. In the morning and in the afternoon he takes over the transport service. Children who have a long way to go and cannot walk, he fetches and brings in his car.
In addition, he is a great gardener and likes to pass on his knowledge to the children of the kindergarten.
The Strangmans and their three children would like the building’s extension to be implemented soon so that they can return to their home. In addition to the security aspect – the house would always be inhabited and would deter potential burglars – thus, there would be many advantages if Chrizell and George lived on site with their children again.
Dear friends of Golden Sunbeams, we will be pleased to keep you up to date on the further development of our new kindergarten project in the Rusthof township and, with Chrizell and George, we are excited that the kindergarten expansion can begin soon.
Since we are currently experiencing the third Covid wave in South Africa, we would like to give you a short situation report from Cape Town. Level 4 has been in place for the second week and that means: all restaurants, bars and cafes are closed and the sale of alcohol is forbidden again. Unfortunately, we have already experienced over 26 000 infections per day, which is an increase over the second wave at the end of last year and beginning of this year, when the daily infections were around 19 000.
Vaccination is primarily done with Biontech / Pfizer. At the moment, however, only 3.8 million people have been vaccinated.
Since the income of our principals and kindergarten teachers is very low due to the current situation, we continue to support them financially. In addition, the queues at the soup kitchens are getting longer again. We support this with food and vegetables. This is only possible because our sponsors, friends and acquaintances continue to support us with their donations. We, our children, principals and kindergarten teachers say thank you very much! It would not be possible without you.
Fortunately, the situation in Europe has eased again.
Enjoy the bright and warm days and please stay safe and sound!
Greetings from the currently wintry Cape Town.
