Dear Friends of Golden Sunbeams
We distributed dozens of chocolate Easter bunnies and countless chocolate Easter eggs to over 260 beaming children in six of our kindergartens – all in three days…
On March 26th we started this year’s Easter campaign in bright sunshine in our first kindergarten Helderberg Golden Sunbeam in the township of Macassar. We hid 26 Easter bags filled with chocolate bunnies and chocolate eggs behind jungle gyms, in the sandpit and in other “secret places” in the play area of the kindergarten.
The little girls and boys had so much fun searching and cheered over every Easter bunny bag they discovered. And you can imagine: of course they found ALL 26!
Afterwards we drove to Bridge Park Edu-Care to surprise 20 children there. The kindergarten, which is also located in Macassar and previously housed almost 50 children, has had to deal with some setbacks in the past. Now the situation seems to be stabilising and we hope that the number of children will increase again.
Here too, the little ones welcomed us with a big hello and were happy about the delicious Easter bunnies and eggs. Carol, the Principal had made beautiful Easter decorations and headdresses with all the children.
On March 27th, the first thing on our programme was Lekker Bekkies Edu-Care in the township of Rusthof. We recently told you about our latest repair work in this kindergarten planned and implemented by the Stuttgart architecture students. Under the leadership of Florentia the Principal, the number of children grew from the original 10 to 36 children today – a big achievement. The children had great fun painting Easter bunnies and Easter eggs and we were so pleased that we could give them our Easter bags as a reward.
The Covenant Kids kindergarten, run by Chrizell and George Strangman, came up with something very special for the children at Easter. They went on a trip to “Monkey Town” with 60 of their children and visited the many different species of monkeys there. But before we went to see the monkeys, we held an Easter egg hunt with all the children on the ground.
Feeding the chimpanzees is always a big attraction for the children and they couldn’t get enough.
We then went to the township of Sir Lowry’s Pass, to Kingdom Kids Edu-Care, the kindergarten that was so badly affected by the major storms in the second half of 2023. Zelna, the Principal and her 3 grandchildren were very happy that we donated Easter bunnies and Easter eggs to her 80 children.
On March 28th, the Easter egg hunt took place at the Loflands Day-Care kindergarten in the township of Rusthof. The Principal, June, had previously made lovely Easter decorations and all the children received Easter bunny ears as headdresses. Here too, their joy was enormous when the 30 children held their Easter bags in their little hands, discovered the many goodies and could hardly wait to show their families their treasures…
We would like to thank our sponsors and donors. Only with your financial support are we able to give such gifts to the children.
We are grateful for this! We wish you a happy Easter, wonderful hours with your families and friends and Easter walks in sunshine!
Warm greetings from a still very warm Cape Town.
Best regards
Britta and Bernd
