Dear friends of Golden Sunbeams

Finally the time has come: the building permit for the construction of our kindergarten Bright Future Edu-Care Centre has been granted. The space available for learning and playing has long been too small for all the children.  In addition, there were no sanitary facilities for the little ones.

We are grateful that we received financial support in late 2018 to initiate this building project.
We wanted to start construction in the Christmas holidays already but in South Africa, too, one needs a permit for all construction permits.  Our architect on site, George Strangman, helped us with the preparation of building plans and supported us with the application process to build an extension to the current premises..

Since the beginning of 2019, we have awaited approval for our construction project.  Only a few days ago we finally received clearance for the new building.  The extension will be built on the property of Bright Future Edu-Care Centre, which is owned by the principal, Sobayi Ntombezanele.

Cheerful builders and hard working helpers
The plan of the extension: a big, new room for the children and a toilet for boys and girls.
The foundation is laid and the new extension can now be constructed

Immediately upon receipt of the building permit, we started with preparations for laying the foundation.  The material was ordered and delivered. But it’s a real challenge to build in the extremely restricted space while, at the same time, storing all the material – such as rocks, cement and sand – without disturbing the daily kindergarten activities.

Of course there is still a lot to do and everyone concerned is working hard to complete the new building.  However, we would like to thank the African Rainbow Foundation which has contributed a large part of the financing.  At this point, we would also like to thank the Corobrik company which gave us a large discount enabling us to build with sustainable and durable bricks. We will report on our progress in a future newsletter.

Your donation will also help to improve the chances of disadvantaged children and their families in the townships, to overcome inequality and give them a better life.
