Better Opportunities for Children in the Townships of South Africa!

After the end of apartheid, with the establishment of a new, democratic government, all kindergartens in the Helderberg region were either closed or no longer received financial support. The resulting consequences were devastating for the families in the townships: without childcare parents could not look for jobs; no work meant no wages; no wages meant there was no possibility to adequately take care of one’s family – a vicious cycle.

Digging, planting and harvesting in Nomaliso’s kindergarten, Emfundisweni, was worth it! Years of community work have resulted in a vegetable garden where healthy food is grown. We provide most of the plants on a regular basis. “Live” nature, children’s participation in planting, cultivating and harvesting the various types of vegetables prove the project’s sustainability.
